The Unknown

Three years ago a daughter was given a gift from her mother that she has cherished and will continue to cherish over the years.  From that day she has put art, leaves, poems, feathers, personal quotes, souvenirs and pretty much anything else that came to mind that would fit. She could not even pick a favorite from the journal that she has no specific name for so I had the pleasure of getting  to chose a favorite of mines, and as I flipped through page after page I realized just exactly why the decision is so tough.  Its because it truly is a journal that is a work of art and full of amazing things.

God’s Not Dead

Life Changing. Captivating. A must see.  It’s a movie about a college student who is faced with the challenge of denying God or defending him. How far would you go… to defend your belief in God?,  is the question he had in mind. From personal experience I strongly encourage all, every single person you know to go and see the movie, whether you are a believer or not. It has a amazing cast including  even Wille and Korie Robertson from the Duck Commander. There is song by the Newboys that is titled “Gods Not Dead” which is just as amazing as the movie.

“Sometimes the devil allows a person to live free of trouble, cause he doesn’t want them turning to God “

Only a REAL RISK, can test the the REALITY OF A BELIEF “

– C.S LEWIS

Violence and Abuse

Violence and abuse occurs in the lives of people that surround us every second, minute, and day.  The sad thing is the abuser is mostly occurring and going to occur from someone that we know and someone that we “trust” or least expect to hurt us.  The Red Flag Campaign is awell known campaign designed to address dating violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on college campuses. Another thing known is Walk a Mile in Her Shoes which are world wide walks to make awareness and help prevent and stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Men literally walk one mile in women’s high heeled red shoes: yeah a site to see. wpid-20140422_134048.jpg

24 Hour Technology Cut off

For a class assignment I was challenged to go 24 hours with out technology! YES! 24 HOURS WITH NO TV , CELL PHONES, PANDORA, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, OR even SNAPCHAT! As hard as I thought this was gonna be it actually was rather easy. I wrote down a little journal writing after twelve hours into it and it said ” It is twelve hours after starting time of my 24 hours without technology. I indeed am using a FM radio but not a land line because that just was not handy at all. The FM radio was borrowed and it was covered in dust and you could tell it was of no use.  Well the FM radio out smarted me and its owner considering we did not know how to set a alarm on it. I “thought” I had set one but rising up exactly at 8 this morning let me know otherwise, as I quickly had to throw on clothes and make it, “Late”, to my 8 o’clock class. ( which was luckily two buildings away from my dorm and not across the campus).

Other than that little mishap, it actually was not bad at all considering I still had great music, shout out to 100.9 quick FM, they helped make this challenge not so dreading.  I found myself getting more well needed sleep, cleaning up, and getting ahead on some work, so I actually found myself more productive.

“Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards.”
Aldous Huxley

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

–Albert Einstein

The most technologically efficient machine that man has ever invented is the book.

–Northrop Frye

Just because I said……

“This is probably going to get quoted in every publication just because I said it. And I’m not even saying anything. I’m not talking about my films, I’m not talking about my life, and I’m not talking about the world. And yet, the media will print it simply because I said it. And at this moment in time, I bet there is an artist around the corner of this hotel, on the street, with a mind far beyond ours, but we never listen to him simply because he has not appeared in a movie – And that is what is really messed up about our culture.”

– Robert Downy Jr.

Out of the Darkness

Someone in the United States dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes. 50% to 70% of all people who attempt suicide tells someone about their intention. American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, also known as AFSP, is the nation’s leading organization for Suicide prevention research. Arkansas Tech University helped in sponsoring with a campus held for the prevention of suicide, The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk. They were only hoping to raise 5,000 dollars as there goal and well over exceeded that by 3 times and raised over 15,000 dollars. They had a total of 583 walkers to attend the event, which turned out to be truly amazing.   The Out of the Darkness Campus Walks are part of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s signature fundraising campaign, designed to engage young people in AFSP’s mission and programs with 3-5 mile walks each spring at colleges and high schools across the country.  When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Campus Walks, you join the effort with thousands of people to raise funds and awareness for AFSP’s vision to create a world without suicide.  DO NOT be afraid to ask whether someone you Love is considering suicide and if you are one considering realize that YOU ARE NOT ALONE, there are people out there to help you, there is probably someone out there experiencing the same thing that is causing you to want to take your life.

But in the end one needs more courage to live than to kill himself.”
Albert Camus

“Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.”
Seneca
