To me and probably to a lot of others in the world, there has been too much of an emphasis being put on technology in today’s generation and society. In the library this instant as I write this blog if I just glance up and actually look around at the students on computers, I see that many of them are to occupied on their phones to be accomplishing and getting done with their work faster. Technology to me is the easy way honestly, and yes I am grateful for it at times, but also I wish I had grew up without a while longer just so that I could actually appreciate life more with technology consuming most of it. Yes, I am very guilty of allowing technology to take over my life and time, but I am not the only one. When I was recently was challenged to go twenty four hours without technology I actually found that I was very grateful to have been challenged that. And I was even more proud that I accomplished it with out giving in, breaking down, or cheating. During that challenge I realized some things, and those things were very helpful.
One thing I realized was that overall without having technology I found out that I actually was very productive with my life. I found myself having more free time to get things done. Things that honestly with my phone or other technology would have other wise been avoided and ignored. Those things were cleaning, catching up on homework or quizzes, and getting well needed sleep. I even found myself getting out and running a mile and half that night. Yes boredom struck me at times but still in the end I accomplished a lot more without technology.
Another thing I realized was that I found myself actually having to look up things in my notes. Usually you can type a question or how to do something on to Google and in less than five seconds it would be shooting you back an answer or video of what exactly to do or exactly how to answer the question. And that is indeed where I feel we depend and rely on technology too much. You used to have to look up things in the books, or ask your teachers, or other students, but now that’s rarely ever done just because of how much easier and quicker it is to Google, Wikipedia, Ask, or Bing something is now.
